Most declines come from your bank rather than from us. We pass the card straight to them and show you what came back, so the quickest way through is usually to change something and try again, or to use a different card.
Check these first
- The card number, the expiry date and the security code on the back.
- The billing postcode. It has to match the one your bank has on file for that card, not the address you want anything sent to.
- That the card is active and has room on it.
- That it is a Visa or a Mastercard. Those are the two we can take.
Sending the very same details again rarely helps. If nothing has changed, the answer will not change either.
What the message meant
Find the line you saw on the payment screen. Rows are grouped by that message rather than by the reason behind it. Your bank tells us whether it approved a payment, and often not much more than that.
| What you saw | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Check that card number | The number does not match any card your bank recognises. | Re-type it from the card itself rather than from memory. |
| Check the security code | The short code did not match what your bank expected. | Use the three digits on the back of the card. |
| Check your billing postcode | It did not match the postcode your bank holds for that card. | Use the postcode the card is registered to, the one your statements go to, not a delivery address. |
| That card has been replaced | Your bank has newer details for it, usually a reissue after expiry or loss. | Enter the details from the card you are holding now. |
| Your bank turned this down | They refused it without telling us why. A limit, an unfamiliar merchant and a security check all look the same from our side. | Use a different card, or call the number on the back of the card and ask them to let it through. |
| Your bank wants a word first | They want to confirm it is really you before they will approve it. | Call the number on the back of the card. They usually clear it on the spot, and the same card should then work. |
| That one is still going through | Your last attempt has not come back yet. | Give it a moment. Do not submit it again. You would risk two payments rather than one. |
| That did not go through | Something went wrong on our side. Your card is fine. | Try again. If it keeps happening, email us. |
If your bank turned it down
Banks decline for reasons they do not always pass on to us: a limit, an unfamiliar merchant, a card that has been replaced. A different card is usually the fastest way through. If you would rather sort it out with your bank, call the number on the back of the card.
Why your bank will say SLUSHY
LinkPay is powered by Slushy and payments are taken under Slushy’s merchant account, so SLUSHY is the name your bank and your statement will use. That is the name to give them if they ask what the charge is. The seller’s name never appears on your statement.
Still stuck
Email support@linkpay.co with the date, the amount and the last four digits of the card, and we will look into it. Do not send us the full card number.
